The Second Gentleman of the US Douglas Craig Emhoff Tests Positive for Coronavirus Disease; VP of the US Kamala Harris still Negative

Douglas Craig Emhoff is an American lawyer who is the second gentleman of the United States. Emhoff is, the husband of VP Kamala Harris, has tested positive for COVID-19, as per the vice-president’s office.

“Earlier this morning, the Douglas Emhoff was tested positive for COVID-19.” Sabrina Singh, White House Deputy Press Secretary, stated in a statement. “Out of complete precaution, the Vice president will not be participating in tonight’s celebration. Today, The Vice President has tested negative for COVID-19.”

Douglas Craig Emhoff, 57-year-old, posted on social media that he is feeling mild symptoms of coronavirus.

During the Equal Pay Day event at the White House, both Emhoff and Kamala Harris were scheduled to attend; America President Joe Biden referenced Kamala Harris’s absence because of Douglas Emhoff’s coronavirus positive test.

President Joe Biden stated that “One person that I am especially proud of is, I was supposed to introduce me is Kamala Harris.” He added, “Harris did not want to take a risk because her husband was diagnosed with COVID-19, although he is feeling extremely well. When Emhoff did the COVID-19 test, his report showed positive; he is fine now, but because of the fear and being too cautious, Kamala decided she would not join us today.”

“But let us send her our best wishes, as she is different. And I am sure how proud she is about our team,” Joe Biden stated on Tuesday evening at the event.

When asked if Biden was being tested this evening due to his closeness to Harris earlier, the White House pointed out that is not a requirement in COVID protocols.

As far as we know, Jen Psaki, the White House press secretary, stated that President Biden had tested negative for coronavirus on Sunday.

Douglas Craig Emhoff had a public event earlier on Tuesday. In celebration of AmeriCorps Week, Emhoff visited his local Marvin Gaye Greening Center to explore the area and participate in a service project. He also conversed with two journalists for a few minutes during the occasion.

In his blog post, sharing details of his coronavirus diagnosis, Emhoff declared that he was “grateful to be vaccine- Moderna COVID-19 vaccinated and boosted” and advised others who do not yet receive the doses “please do not wait.”

As a second man, Douglas Emhoff has traveled frequently to COVID-19 clinics across the country to encourage shots. Both Kamala Harris and  Emhoff have received their booster doses.

In the United States, COVID-19 incidences and hospitalization rates are decreasing steadily. Recently, new wastewater data released this week from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that the United States may be seeing the beginning of a rise in the number of coronavirus infections.

The data provided by CDC (The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) on Tuesday also suggest that the omicron variant has nearly doubled each week throughout the nation. Till the 12th of March, the omicron variant is expected to account for 23.1% of new cases in the United States.

The information comes as countries in Asia and Europe, including China, the United Kingdom, and Germany, are witnessing coronavirus regeneration.

United States officials are closely watching the coronavirus cases among other countries, Anthony Fauci, Chief Medical Advisor to the President of United States, stated to media on Tuesday.

“We are quite interested in what is going in that regard,” Anthony Fauci stated, saying that he spoke with his the United Kingdom, who have predicted the rise of the more transmittable omicron variant, diminishing immunity and opening of the society from prior or vaccination.
