Google Phone App Gets Caller ID Feature, To Automatically Announce Caller’s Details

Tech giant Google has rolled out a Caller ID feature for its Phone app. The new feature will tell users who is calling. The Google Phone app’s feature was in the making for a long. It will work for incoming calls on a smartphone. The new support is, however, available to Android devices. The smartphone will automatically announce the name of the caller when it rings. If the contact is not saved in the phonebook, it will announce the caller’s phone number. The feature will be handy for remote working. Google said that it will let users know who is calling before getting up to answer when phones far away from the phone. The Caller ID feature will help users screen unwanted calls.

Google currently allowed Pixel owners to receive the automatic Call Screen feature. It is available to customers in America only. However, users can now identify the caller with the help of the new feature when they receive a call. Users who have set the Google Phone app as the default dialer application, have already received the update. The Caller ID feature is available with the app’s latest version. The updates can be downloaded from the Play Store. Google said that users can set when they want the app to announce Caller ID. It said that options have been provided to announce the Caller ID every time or when an earphone is on. Users need to enable the new feature under the Settings option. The feature is disabled by default. Users can choose from three options — Always; Only when using a headset; or Never.

Notably, all the iOS devices come with the caller ID feature enabled. The Caller ID feature is a great accessibility feature. It is helpful for those with visual impairments. It lets them easily know who is calling them. Google noted that the feature will help users get rid of spam and unwanted calls. Google Phone app has already interesting features like call recording and spam protection. It also has a visual voicemail. The call recording feature was rolled out last year. It lets users to record phone calls automatically from unknown numbers. The call recording feature is in handy for those who record lectures, interviews, or other conversations.
